Standard to Satisfy (a poem I wrote when I was 16)

Parents label me an addict,
Life is sick I think I've had it,
No way around it, nothing to do,
Nothing to lose, but more to prove,
Wasted talent so they claim,
More like a weak excuse for change.

They expect so much from me,
Why? Is a question that can't be answered.
The things I love evade me,
Am I that much of a disaster?

Clear statements go ignored,
I'm not pulling the plug,
I'm slicing the cord.
If time is something to love,
It's a luxury we can't afford.

Never will I be all you want,
This resistance is far too much.
Meeting the needs of everyone who watch,
Because, the resistance is far too much.

Living by the Standards to Satisfy,
Is like escaping a way to gratify.
Not showing thanks of what you become,
Makes you less willing to overcome,
Thrown to the ruthless expecting to have won.
But you fail every time because the resistance of the standards is far too much.
